Approach to Therapy

I specialize in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address client concerns. CBT focuses on the connections between cognitions (thoughts), emotions, and behaviors and the role they each play in navigating daily experiences. By developing an increased awareness of maladaptive and unhelpful thinking patterns, new and more productive approaches can be generated, positively impacting overall functioning.

Depending on client needs, I am also trained in utilizing insight-oriented approaches, focused on getting to know oneself better, through examining past experiences and relationships and connecting them with the present. Along with motivational interviewing techniques, approaches that target creating change in one's life, I work to address client needs with specifically tailored approaches.

Ocean Rocks

As a Westchester-based therapist, I specialize in supporting teens, young adults, and adults experiencing:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • ADHD and Executive Functioning Deficits

  • Life Transitions and Adjustment Diffiuculties

Utilizing tailored approaches that are solution-focused, I partner with clients and their families to become the best versions of themselves. Therapy looks different for everyone, as it should. I work to meet my clients where they are, which means that we focus on topics that are most pressing to them, allowing them to experience a sense of comfort and control during sessions. My hope is that you will feel like you are talking with someone who is genuinely interested in helping you reach your goals.

In my work with adolescents, college students, and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, and other related concerns, I utilize an evidence-based approach called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), where we'll focus on how unhelpful thinking styles are likely negatively impacting your feelings and behaviors. Through deepening our understanding of your thinking patterns and developing concrete ways to respond, relief is often reported after only a handful of sessions. It may also be useful to integrate insight-oriented therapies and some mindfulness techniques depending on specific client needs.

With an open-minded, collaborative and flexible approach, I invite you to reach out for a free 15-min phone consultation to see if working together is a possibility. Please fill out the contact section below if you would like Dr. Mandelbaum to contact you!

Areas of Expertise

Individual psychotherapy:

I provide individual psychotherapy to adolescents, young adults, and adults struggling with:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • ADHD and Executive Functioning Deficits

  • Life Transitions and Adjustments

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
I specialize in providing mental health support utilizing CBT which is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that targets negative automatic thinking patterns. By becoming aware of, and learning to alter, these thinking styles, clients gain the skills to independently counteract the very thoughts that cause them to feel distress.
College-aged and Young Adult Mental Health:
Being in college and navigating life shortly afterwards, comes with unique challenges that may require some support. Whether it is handling new responsibilities, considering school and career options, or managing new friendships and relationships, you don't have to go through it alone.

MindSwing blends mental health support with golf simulator sessions, offering a fresh alternative to the traditional therapy office.

Why MindSwing Works

Combining the meditative rhythm of golf with evidence-based psychotherapy creates a uniquely powerful growth-oriented experience.

🧠

Reduced Performance Anxiety

Physical activity during sessions lowers cortisol and helps clients open up naturally — no stiff couch required.

Focused Mindfulness

Each swing demands presence. The repetitive motion creates a meditative state ideal for therapeutic breakthroughs.

🤝

Therapeutic Alliance at Ease

Side-by-side activity rather than face-to-face activity removes the pressure of eye contact, making vulnerable conversations feel easier and more natural.

🌿

A Private, Comfortable Setting

Our simulator suites are soundproof and climate-controlled — a confidential space that feels nothing like a clinical office.
